Question Regarding Children with Disabilities

Assalamualaikum Respected Muftis,

We have two children, one of whom is born with autism, the other is normal. Alhamdulillah we are blessed. My question is, I have been searching everywhere and looking into what the Muftis have advised, but I cannot find any information about the tarbiyat of a child of autism and what Islam says about children with autism and their parents and siblings. I am looking for information about whether my child with autism will be held accountable for prayers and other Islamic faraidh? He is developmentally disabled and delayed and will be for life. And I would like to know what is the wisdom of Allah to bless us with a child with disabilites and what does Islam have to say about this issue of parents and children with disabilities like my son with autism.

JazakAllah Khair.

Children are a great blessing of Allah (SWT), the coolness of the eyes of parents and the authority to bestow children is none other than Allah (SWT). Allah alone creates whatever HE wills. He bestows the gift of female offspring on whomever HE wills and the gift of male offspring on whomever HE wills. Even if we are bestowed upon with a disabled child, that wisdom is from God and the Will of God, we should give thanks to God in every case.

Autism is a disorder, which means self-consciousness and idealism.  A child with autism is lost in his imagination and is very weak in understanding and intelligence. Parents and other family members should pay special attention to the training of such children.

According to psychologists, such children should be trained to speak in simple words

Be encouraged to ask questions, and give them simple and satisfying answers and meeting them warmly.

Encourage them, keep them in the house, and protect them so that the patient does not feel lonely and alone.

A child with autism will be considered a disabled person because the is mentally paralyzed, and Islam excuses such a disabled person from worship. Therefore, in case of non-fulfillment of Islamic duties and obligations, he will not be reprehensible.
