Working in an Insurance Company

Assalamu Alaikum,

I am a licensed insurance agent that can sell insurance for cars, homes, business, motorcycle, boats, health, final expense, annuity, and life insurance. I have been talking to people with Islamic knowledge saying that selling insurance is halal and permissible except life insurance. Can you please clarify if selling life insurance and annuity is permissible and halal? At this moment, I have been offered a job to sell property, casualty, health, and life insurance, I greatly appreciate if you can get back to me at your earliest time.

All these forms of work in an insurance company are considered impermissible. However, if a person is not able to find any other job, doesn’t have any other means of survival, is facing hardship then in such financial constraint there is flexibility to continue and not quit the job immediately. One should keep looking for another job, seek forgiveness, and as soon as he finds another job he should quit the insurance job immediately.
