Incorrect Statement by Mutakallim

Asalamualaikum.

Hazrat, one day we were doing our second gasht, and the mutqalim said, that when Hamza (RA) was martyred, the Prophet (SAW) didn’t mind his passing if it means we’re Muslims today (addressing the brothers were talking to) – he even went as far as saying that the Prophet (SAW) didn’t mind his entire family passing, if it means we all would become Muslims. This is clearly, and grislyt incorrect, as the Prophet (SAW) was in tears when Hamza (RA) passed away, and when he was told Hussain (RA) was going to be killed by his own Ummah. Wahi eben came down by Allah correcting the Prophet (SAW), that only one life for a life – if I am not mistaken? This confirms the Prophet (SAW) was clearly upset.

The brothers intentions were sincere, but the Hadith that comes to mind, where the Prophet (SAW), one who attributes a lie to him will be in hell – prompts me it’s the right thing to do, but I wanted to get a more professional point of view.

الجواب وبالله التوفيق

The statement by the mutakallimthat Rasulullah Sallallaho Alyhi Wasallamdid not have grief upon the martyrdom of Hazrat Hamza RaziAllah Ta‘ala Anhu, is incorrect. In reality, Rasulullah Sallallaho Alyhi Wasallamdid have sorrow on this incident so much so that after Hazrat Wehshi RaziAllah Ta‘ala Anhureverted to Islam, Rasulullah Sallallaho Alyhi Wasallam told him:

Wehshi, as long as I am alive, do not come in front of me, so that the grief of Hamza’s martyrdom does not get constantly revived.”

Hazrat Wehshi RaziAllah Ta‘ala Anhufulfilled the promise as well.

Therefore, stating in a bayan that Rasulullah Sallallaho Alyhi Wasallam did not have significant grief upon this incident, is incorrect. You should ask the mutakallim for the proof behind his statement and in case you get this proof, share it with us as well.
