Worried about my daughter

Assalamu Alykum,

My 9 yrs old daughter got her period this February for 3 days then till now she get none. She started fasting this Ramadan and trying her best to not break her day Alhamdulilah but I noticed she is so weak not eating much no drinking water and she's dehydrated. I know that she's obligated to fast but I'm a bit worried about her since she's 9 and skinny.

My question is does she need to break her fast if she don't feel good and make it up later?

Thank you and Jazakum Allah khayran

You have mentioned the age of your daughter as 9 years, which may be the very early age of puberty. Make sure to calculate whether the daughter was 9 years old or not at the time of her menstruation, (and these 9 years shall be calculated according to lunar calendar but not the solar calendar).

Blood before the age of nine (9) will be considered “istihadhah” and the girl will not be considered an adult yet.

Similarly, you have mentioned that the bleeding continued for only three days.

Therefore, if the bleeding started and continued intermittently and the last bleeding happened on or aftercompletion of 72 hours, then the girl will be considered an adult. But if the last blood discharge stopped even a few minutes before the completion of 72 hours, then the girl will be treated a minor.

In summary, if the girl has been determined a minor, she will remain a minor until the next three full days of blood and fasting will not be obligatory upon her.But in view of the love and importance of developing the habit of fasting and Shariah commands, she should be encouraged to fast from time to time.

In case the girl has been confirmed an adult considering the above description, then fasting has become obligatory. But if she will become sick by fasting or if her existing health condition will worsen, then she may not fast now, rather make those missed days up at a later suitable time. Please note that “fidya” (expiation) etc. will not be enough as compensation.

According to Fatawa Shami:
