Assalamualaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh hu, I just wanted to know what is sadaqah jariya? Because in 2018, I gave all my Islamic books and all of my papers to my moms teacher who is a allamah. I'm an allamah too but I think because me of giving my books to someone else I'm having difficulties in my life. What should I do?

1. Perpetual charity is defined as a virtuous act done solely for the pleasure of Allah (SWT), perpetual in terms of its benefit and reward.

Among various forms of perpetual charity are to establish or build:

a. A property, a mosque or a religious institution and dedicate it for the benefit of general public.

b. Dig a well and dedicate its water resource for general public.

c. Teach and train your children in line with Islamic teachings and traditions so they grow up as righteous individuals who will continue to pray for you during your life and after your death.

d. Teach and assist other people in the learning of Qur’an and of religious knowledge.

e. Teaching, publication and propagation of Islam, which will continue to reap Allah’s reward in this life and in the hereafter.

2. Trials and tribulation come down from Allah (SWT). Therefore to link your problems to donation of your books is a baseless feeling which must be sidelined.

Having said that, it is wise to keep possession of religious books as they are a source of blessing. Being an “Aalimah”, yourself, it was not worthy of your status to give away your religious books.

In addition to performing your regular daily prayers, focus on reciting “Istighfaar and Drood Sharif” more frequently. In-Shaa Allah your condition will get better.
